Who I am
I am Josh Garrison, owner and sole operator of G.I. Fishing Guide Service in Blairsville, Georgia. I started G.I.
Fishing Guide Service for one simple reason, I LOVE TO FISH. Whether it's hanging a monster mountain
striper on Lake Nottely, landing a big brown trout on the fly from Lake Burton, or traveling the Southeast in
search of new waters, fishing is my life or at least the sane part of it. I also spend part of each year working in
the Middle East as a security contractor for the U.S. Government. This has afforded me (in more ways than
one) the unique opportunity to guide in the North GA Mountains, an area that may or may not support a guide
full time. Just click on any of the pictures to meet me, my daughter, our closest friends, and some happy
customers. Then shoot us an email from the contact page and tell us when you're ready to go fishing.
Location
I am lucky enough to live in the small mountain community of Blairsville, GA. Located only two hours north of
Atlanta, GA or two hours east of Chattanooga, TN. Blairsville is a great refuge for the urbanites looking to get
away for the day or for a long vacation. Located along the city limits of Blairsville is Lake Nottely. This 4,180
acre TVA reservoir with over 100 miles of shoreline is nestled in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains and
is the perfect setting for any outdoor trip. Often on weekdays you can enjoy many hours on the lake without
seeing another boat.
What I do
The main service I provide is striper fishing on Lake Nottely. With almost 15 years of experience on this lake I
utilize numerous tactics and techniques for catching striped bass year round. These include live bait fishing,
trolling, drifting, ballooning, casting, top-water, free-lining, and even fly-fishing. The key to catching stripers is
knowing where the fish are and what they are feeding on. With this knowledge, the fish can be caught with any
number of preferred techniques. This allows people with varied experience levels or no experience at all to
have great outings.
Lake Nottely is usually ranked third in Georgia for numbers of stripers. However, with the limited fishing
pressure, beautiful surroundings, and hard hitting action, I consider it the best striper fishing Georgia has to
offer. The striped bass caught on Lake Nottely usually average 6-15 pounds with 15-20 pounders quite
frequently being caught. The bigger fish aren't an every day catch but numerous 20-40 pound fish are caught
each year (see photos). You can bring any of your own gear and tackle but quality rods and tackle are included
at no extra charge.

What I like to do
Where I differ from most guides is that I love to travel. I am willing to go where ever you would like to catch fish.
These custom trips are just that...truly custom. Give me a call and tell me where you would like to catch fish
and I will make it happen. I take trips to Lake Burton and all the other surrounding reservoirs for different
species of fish and I am very familiar with the Cumberland River in Southern Kentucky where monster stripers
and trout are the norm. Like I said in the beginning I LOVE TO FISH, so if you read an article in one of your
favorite periodicals on some remote hot spot and can't wait to go just give me a call and I will get you on the
fish.
Latest and Greatest
First off, sorry for the delay in updating the website. I have had major computer problems but those are behind
me now. This spring was good on Lake Nottely and great on the Tennessee River. On Nottely, I landed the
new lake record Hybrid Bass at 8lbs 12oz. The Stripers were really late getting in the river for their spawn this
year, so unfortunately, since I'm back overseas, I will miss most of the best action. We did get into some great
action in Tennessee with a 35lbs 11oz coming on topwater (see above), another 35 pounder on live bait, and
my 10yr old getting her new personal best at 28lbs 4oz. So check out the photos page and then my article
from Georgia Outdoor News from back in December www.gon.com The only other news is rates went up a
little thanks to the price of diesel and I'll be back towards the end of June. Good Fishing <')))))))><
